Students at FMS are heterogeneously grouped into teaching teams, with
teachers who specialize in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies,
and/or Reading. The students rotate among their core teachers during the
day; however, they stay with the same set of teachers for their core
academic subjects for the entire school year. This encourages an
atmosphere conducive to both learning and fellowship, giving a "small
school feel" within the confines of a larger campus.
In order to provide special learning situations and expanded horizon
experiences, students are also provided two Special Area (Related Arts)
classes per day. These Special Area courses include:
. Art
. Band
. Chorus
. Guidance
. Health
. General Music
. Orchestra
. Physical Education
. Technology
FMS presents both academic and non-academic awards for those students
whose skills, knowledge, or attitudes reflect exceptional performance.
These awards include Honor Roll, Good Citizenship, Perfect Attendance,
Leadership and Most Improved.
Students can also participate in a variety of programs and activities to
pursue their particular interest. Such programs include before- and
after-school study sessions, tutorial and enrichment activities in core
subjects, and service organizations as well as peer mentoring and peer
tutoring.
